Michael’s Ketchup

This one’s no good, but I had to warn you.

1 can chopped tomatoes $0.99
1 small can tomato paste $0.59
1 large onion, chopped $0.47
1 cup red wine vinegar $1.09
1/2 cup sugar $0.11
1/2 cup olive oil $0.23
2 heaping teaspoons nutmeg $0.34
2 pinches ground allspice $0.05
2 or 3 bay leaves $0.32
Salt and pepper $0.02

Total Cost    $4.21
Cost per Serving $0.26

1.) Pour everything into a sauce pot and bring to a simmer over medium heat. Continue cooking until the mixture reduces by half, about 45 minutes. Puree until smooth with an immersion blender, or in a stand blender or food processor.

2.) Serve and enjoy!
