Chocolate Frosting

Chocolate Icing

This morning I had published the recipe for Mrs. Millman’s Chocolate Frosting onto the blog, just to warn you to never, ever use that recipe. I don’t know this Mrs. Millman, but what Martha’s doing calling that icing I have no idea. So when you need to decorate a cake, cupcakes, or just need a sweet treat sitting in your fridge for those chocolate cravings, whip up this icing frosting instead. It’s much easier, much tastier, has a much better consistency, and actually works and tastes like chocolate frosting. For this picture I still used Martha’s Moist Devil’s Food Cake, and consisting of chocolate cake, chocolate frosting, chocolate chips, a dusting of chocolate cookie crumbs, and chocolate sprinkles, I appropriately call it “Five Times the Chocolate Cake.” Enjoy!

1 cup butter, softened $0.89
1/2 cup cocoa powder, sifted $2.00
5 cups icing sugar, sifted $1.99
1 teaspoon vanilla $0.22
3-4 tablespoons milk $0.08

Total Cost $5.18

1.) In a large bowl, whip butter and cocoa powder until smooth.

2.) Add vanilla and icing sugar and continue to beat on low or medium speed until all ingredients are incorporated.

3.) Slowly drizzle in milk, one tablespoon at a time, until desired consistency is reached.

4.) Decorate, serve, and enjoy!
