Hell’s Kitchen: Week 3

Last night’s episode of Hell’s Kitchen started for me what this show is really all about: finding out who I hated the most, and finding out who I liked the most. This is when it all starts to get interesting as we keep finding out more about the competing cooks and forming our own opinions of them. It also had a very interesting challenge where the women’s team didn’t seem like it would fair very well, but they ended up doing not too badly on it.

The show started with Chef Ramsay giving the teams a challenge. Roll a die that had letters all over it, and each team member took a turn rolling the die. When it stopped on a letter, each cook had to come up with an ingredient that they would put into a final dish. The men’s team came up with some pretty good ingredients. With things like salsifry, bacon, and crab, they had a sure-fire hit, even if they screwed it up it seemed. The women however, chose some less compatible items such as beets and mangos. However, both of the teams came out very well and I was very impressed that the women’s team was able to pull it off at all. The show was two hours and after the challenge and one dinner service, Jaime was sent home. Good riddance to her, I say. She really didn’t seem like a team player, she definitely wasn’t up to snuff in Hell’s Kitchen, and I wasn’t sad to see her go.

One person that almost left during dinner service was Salvatore. I’ve grown to have an incredible hatred towards Salvatore in the three short weeks that I’ve known him. He wanted to leave because he didn’t think he could take Chef Ramsay yelling at him anymore. Seriously? Come on! You’re in Hell’s Kitchen, for crying out loud! Chef Ramsay yells. And he yells a lot. And he’s quite insulting when he does it. If you don’t like it, don’t apply to be on the show. I really wish that Salvatore had just given up and left, but unfortunately, John Phillipe talked him into staying and so, he did. Then comes the second dinner service.

I don’t know what Salvatore did to win a place in Chef Ramsay’s heart but, he must have done something because Chef chose him to put someone on the block after dinner service. He also chose Nilka from the women’s team to do the same. After going back to the dorm, Salvatore talked to Scott, who up until this point, has been Salvatore’s biggest defender and friend in the kitchen. I despise Scott. He truly thinks that he’s such a good chef, and he’s constantly getting in everyone’s faces all the time in the kitchen. And, he had a bad dinner service as he couldn’t get the temperature right on his meat. But, as much as I hate to admit it, he probably is a good cook and probably deserves to stay around for a little while longer, as arrogance doesn’t seem to be a good reason to kick someone off the show. But, despite that, Salvatore, Scott’s very good friend, put him up for elimination. Now, that’s just rude!

On the women’s team, Nilka put up Autumn. Again, I don’t like Autumn. I think she’s just as arrogant as Scott is and actually said last night that “not many people have the cooking skills” that she does. Please. But she too is a good cook and I don’t think she deserves to go home just yet. I was shocked, absolutely shocked that either of these two were put up for elimination. The two stepped forward and Chef Ramsay told both of them to hand in their jackets.

It was at that point that I knew that he was making them switch teams, and that’s exactly what he did. So, next week, I guess we’ll see how both Scott and Autumn are going to do on the opposite teams. I don’t foresee it going well. The arrogance level is just going to skyrocket and because they’ll both be working with team members that aren’t especially fond of them, it’s only going to get even worse. But hey, it should make for some pretty darned good TV.
